Ares (Ἄρης) is the son of Zeus and Hera. God of war, he embodies the violent and chaotic nature of combat. Though feared for his destructive temper, he also represents physical valour and symbolises the spirit of brotherhood and courage among true warriors. His Roman counterpart is Mars.
